Auck Gains & Chch Loses On Population Front

Add these numbers to your projections for the future. Latest official figures show in the year to June 2012, Christchurch city’s population decreased by 4,600, while Auckland accounted for three-quarters of NZ’s population growth, increasing 21,700.

The Canterbury region’s population decreased by 1,800 people. 38 territorial authority areas experienced population growth. Waikato and Nelson regions both grew 0.8%, slightly above the national average of 0.6%.
