Call For SMEs To Create Lobby Group
October 2nd, 2009
Labour’s small business spokesperson, Manukau East MP, Ross Robertson, has called on NZ businesses to set up a small business lobby group to represent their interests. He says “in the USA, the small business lobby group, the National Independent Business Federation, has a powerful voice among senators and Congress. Aust small businesses do too, through the Council of Small Business (Australia).” Robertson says until SMEs find their own voice, the powerful voices of big business will dominate discussions.
He says the potential for SMEs to contribute to real growth makes them vital to any Govt’s drive for growth and productivity. He says SMEs need to lobby more effectively on issues like access to working capital, the cost of bureaucracy, the RMA, OSH, and a growing and serious issue, an ageing workforce. “We can’t afford to lose too much of the experience and knowledge of our older workers.”
