Electronic Card Spending Surges

February 14th, 2013

Paymark, which processes about three-quarters of electronic retail payments in NZ says Kiwis have put their hands back in their wallets, spending $191m – 5.1% – more last month compared to January 2012.

The firm says from December to January, spending increased a seasonally adjusted 0.6%, the fourth consecutive monthly spending gain. It says January’s increase is an encouraging start to the year after spending rose only a modest 2.3% year-on-year, in December.
