How Do You Motivate Yourself?
March 2nd, 2009
Leadership guru Jack Welch says keeping yourself pumped up during tough times is crucial as your employees need to see your confidence. He says there are a few tried and tested ways to keep your morale up.
To remain motivated as a leader you can’t abdicate your confidence. You need to pump yourself up every day. Tell yourself you are not going to be the one who lets the business fail. Another way of maintaining a sense of leadership pride is to focus on the company mission. Where it is going in the future is still important. Have a goal for where you want to be when the fog clears.
Don’t pull back from people you may have to lay-off. Embrace their concerns and note how much they need leadership. Stay connected and use their hopes for survival as a motivator for yourself. Another motivational strategy is to see the situation not as impossible, but as an exciting challenge to overcome. Lastly let colleagues and friends help to keep you inspired. The saying “it’s lonely at the top” is only true if you let it be.
