Innovation: NZ Institute Calls For Lead On Innovation
April 9th, 2010
The NZ Institute is calling on the Govt to create an Innovation Council, saying it should be chaired by John Key. It says economic performance in advanced economies like NZ is strongly influenced by success at innovation. Trade growth is much stronger for the high value products and services which rely on innovation. Productivity is higher and pay rates are also high. Innovation increases the value and reduces the costs of established business activities. The Institute warns NZ’s approach to innovation, past and present, falls well short of what is being done in countries which are serious about innovation. If Govt is serious about increasing economic prosperity then it must take bold steps to lift the productivity of NZ’s businesses.
