Key And Rudd To Work Together Against Recession

March 9th, 2009

John Key and Kevin Rudd, say they will work together to help each other’s country emerge from the global recession. Rudd says “governments will remain in absolute close contact on the appropriate actions.” Simplifying investment opportunities, making travel between Aust and NZ easier so as to boost tourism, helping each other out of the global recession and climate change policy emerged as major issues during Key’s first trans-Tasman visit as PM.

Rudd was more positive than Key probably had a right to expect given the Aust PM has not yet even named a new Aust High Commissioner to Wellington. But the Aust PM says “For Aust, the Anzac trans-Tasman relationship for us is an absolutely key relationship.” He has backed a NZ call to co-operate over banks and deal with credit during problems in the global banking system. The pair are keen “to punch their way through remaining regulatory and investment obstacles” to make the NZ-Aust single economic market a reality in short order.
