Lessons league can teach your business

The Brisbane Broncos, while not grand finalists this year, are on of the NRL’s most successful clubs. Here are some of the things they do to stay at the top:
Continuous Improvement. The team looks outside the NRL at what other teams are doing rather than focus on their local competition.
Investing In New Talent. The Broncos’ top 25 players are capped at salaries amounting to $4.3m – so the team invests about 4% of revenue to develop
new talent. Having few juniors means more salary cap money available for headhunting.
Long-Term Thinking. Protecting senior players during the State of Origin series meant lower crowds and less revenue, but their fresher players gained two home play-off appearances which made up for the revenue shortfall.
Communication. All staff and players are briefed by club management about crucial decisions and the reasoning for them so their is a team unity of purpose in the media.
Goal Setting. Winning the Premiership is a simple goal each year for the club. Many businesses could use such a simple minded goal setting process.
Engaging Customers. The club has a loyal following because there is a strong emotional connection between the fans and club. It is hard to build but very easy to damage.
