Trade: New Opening For NZ Into Europe

In what could be a crucial new avenue into the EU, NZ has joined the influential ASEM group of countries, which groups 27 EU countries with 16 Asian countries and now NZ. All countries in the East Asia Summit, are ASEM members. In the latest move NZ joins Aust and Russia in the group as the only members from outside Europe and Asia. Its next meeting is in Brussels next month, the eighth since it began in 1996. Foreign Minister Murray McCully is likely to attend, but there is no word on whether John Key will be at the meeting. Among leaders wjo are attending will be German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicholas Sarkozy.
