Venture Capital Review Says Keep Govt Involved
October 2nd, 2009
A review of NZ’s venture capital industry has recommended continued Govt involvement in the sector to build on “encouraging but modest” growth in the sector’s activity. The NZ Venture Investment Fund commissioned international consultancy firm LECG to review the sector’s development in NZ. Among the report’s conclusions are:
• Venture capital has the potential to contribute significantly to NZ’s economic growth, and to the level of innovation and efficiency of emerging businesses.
• Venture capital is an important complement to publicly and privately funded R&D, university and CRI research programmes.
• Developing a viable venture capital industry requires prolonged commitment from those involved directly and from policy makers.
• Venture capital fund managers may find it challenging to raise further funds without Govt assistance.
